anaesthesia
Hiding from the truth is like getting tranquilised. The numbing sensation hits us, just as the pain prepares to invade the inner sanctum of our consciousness. The anaesthetic protects us, closing our eyes to the very things that would break down the barrier between what we want to know and what we refuse to accept.
There’s a very thin line between the truth and lies. We tend to choose the lies rather than the task of bracing ourselves for the impact the truth will bring. The empty looks. The empty bank account. The empty heart. The pain never subsides; it always sits on our shoulders, a burden we carry within our hearts to the end of time.
It’s not the broken promises, or even the steel blade of truth that cuts through us like a knife. It’s the aftermath, when the anaesthesia has worn off. It’s the realisation the world shifted in the second we were under that seems to bring us down to earth. To dealing with reality’s harsh truths minus the anaesthetic.

Brilliant as always Nanshii! But still… you can’t help noticing that you’re writing is getting more depressing again.
A while ago it took on a hopeful air, hmm… And now…
Nancy – hope you’re having a good weekend! Plus you have to read “Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold. Very sad book… it made me cry…
Anaesthesia – great metaphor… I shall have to steal it for my WFW…
